Food Prezzies and Everyday Chickpea Quinoa Salad

Happy Wednesday!

I've been busy in the kitchen today, testing and reviewing a few recipes for a beautiful cookbook.  But we'll get to that in the next post!  Today I want to talk about how awesome Maud is:

Lookie what came in the mail yesterday!  I am excited about everything here, especially the salsa - I'm a  total salsa fiend.  I can't wait to try the fig, fennel and almond chocolate - that is one hell of an exciting flavor combo.  She also threw in one of her poetry collections, and I've only read a handful of pages, but I love how it walks the line between old-school elegance and modernity.  Sometimes funny, sometimes beautiful (or both simultaneously!) - I highly recommend it.

Yesterday I didn't want to worry about food too much, but also wanted to eat something healthy and filling.  The first recipe in Appetite for Reduction is an Everyday Chickpea Quinoa salad, which sounded so simple and homey I had to make it.

I promise there's salad in that bowl, buried beneath the gorgeous avocado.  Seriously, isn't that avo perfect?  Few things in life make me happier.  I loved that this recipe was so simple - it wasn't mind-blowing or anything, but I don't always need my meals to be as such.  Sometimes you just want to spend 20 minutes in the kitchen and know you'll have a solid lunch and dinner, instead of having to pick something up at the store or something.

Well adios homies, I'm off to my last real day of teaching before next week's Christmas concerts.  Whew!

  1. Ooh, nice Maud score! Those pretzel crisps are my fave things ever. Also, that is one hell of an amazing avocado. The last one I cut into was all sad and brown inside. It made me cry a little.

    1. I have yet to try the pretzel crisps! And brown avos are so tragic, it hurts my heart.

  3. Yayy you got it! I'm not sure why I ever doubt the postal service but I'm so paranoid. Let me know how you like the salsa - I haven't actually tried it before but the chocolate bar is so good.
And hell yea, definitely nice to get a perfect avo especially this time of year. I have one in a paper bag right now, hopefully ripening well...
